My journey from broke renovator to owner of a furniture painting business

It all started with no money left!

My passion for upcycling started in 2015 when we did a costly home renovation and realised at the end, we had no money left for the interior! So, I looked around and bought older furniture which I found was so well made and had character in buckets!

It does make me chuckle when I think back on it as the finish was questionable at the time!! However, I loved the process, found it all so therapeutic, and it made me feel good that I had saved this furniture from landfill. Plus, it all looked fab in our house!

Practice Makes Perfect!

I could not get enough of courses! (a guilty sin!) Over the years I have attended a large variety of different courses to perfect the huge choice of finishes that can be created. I then practiced and practiced and continue to learn to this day!

The shop years!

In 2017, I opened a shop offering furniture upcycling services, running classes and became a stockist for Frenchic paint amongst other things! Although it wasn't easy as a first-time business owner with all the overheads, it was an incredible learning curve and an experience I will always cherish!

I made the decision to come out of the shop just as we went into lockdown - which I now see as a blessing!

The Home Studio Years

Working from home turned out to be the perfect solution!

From 2020 to 2025, I ran Absolutely Mintage as a thriving home-based business, working with countless customers who loved their furniture makeovers so much they kept coming back for more! These were my busiest and most creative years - perfecting techniques, building a loyal customer base, and really honing my craft.

The personal service I could offer from my home studio was something special. Customers became friends, and I got to see their genuine joy when they collected their transformed treasures.

Fresh Start in Beautiful Devon (July 2025)

New location, same passion for painted furniture!

I've recently moved my furniture painting services from Berkshire to Devon, and I'm excited to bring my furniture makeover expertise to this beautiful county. So, now based in Devon, I'm now working across Exeter and the surrounding areas, ready to transform your tired furniture pieces.

The challenge? Re-establishing myself in a new area - but that's where you come in! I need Devon homes to fill with gorgeous restored furniture!
